Hazel Trex™

Pre- and postharvest, genetic-testing technology to improve the yield and quality of your produce.
Hazel Trex™
Hazel Trex is a genetic testing kit, that empowers growers with greater visibility into their crops' maturation timeline and more control over the budbreak process. Working with Hazel team, Kiwi producers who use Hazel Trex increase yield by a target 15 percent. Hazel Trex also works for apples, by helping confirm a crops' organic or inorganic status.

Delayed Aging Technology.

As produce ages, it begins releasing a natural gas called ethylene. And when crops absorb ethylene, their rate of decay is expedited. 1-MCP is an active ingredient that can be used to reduce ethylene's production and absorption, slowing down the aging process.
1
Toss a Hazel 100 sachet into the box or bin of produce.
2
The sachet releases 1-MCP into the atmosphere around the produce.
3
The 1-MCP binds to the produce’s ethylene receptors, creating an atmospheric shield that temporarily delays the aging process.
4
Every crop reacts differently to ethylene, so we’ve created tailored Hazel 100 sachets to serve the unique needs of each crop.

Smart MAP technology.

Allow your produce to breathe easier with packaging that helps balance the oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere around your fruit and vegetables for better quality produce with more resilience against unexpected temperature changes.
1
Smart MAP membrane lets O2 pass freely through and expels CO2.
2
Place a Hazel Breatheway membrane over packaged produce.
3
The produce within the packaging maintains beneficial, balanced atmospheres during transit.
4
When temperatures increase outside the packaging, the Breatheway membrane adjusts to accommodate the increased produce respiration.

Anti-fungal Technology

For some produce, like grapes and berries, fungus spores are the leading cause of decay and spoiling. Using an anti-fungal pad can extend the shelf life and quality of your crops.
1
Insert a Hazel Endure pad into the top and bottom of the storage box, pallet, or reefer.
2
When the produce is added, the pad creates an atmospheric shield around the crops.
3
The shield is made up of a 100% organic blend of essential oils that delay the growth of fungal spores - extending the shelf life of your produce.

Anti-sprouting Technology

For root vegetables - like potatoes - sprouting is often the first sign of spoiling. But you can slow down sprouting to keep your veggies fresh longer.
1
Insert a Hazel Root sachet into the storage box.
2
This creates an atmospheric shield around your root vegetables.
3
The shield is made up of a 100% organic blend of essential oils that slows down the sprouting process - keeping your everything inside the shield fresh longer.

Postharvest Solutions

Hazel Trex allows you to verify that 1-MCP was properly applied to stored apples.

Smart MAP technology.

Allow your fruit to breathe easy with active, responsive MAP technology. Each fruit and vegetable exhibits a unique respiration rate.

Breatheway customizes its crop-specific Temperature Switch membranes to match the permeability (or permeation rate) with the specific respiration rate of the produce. This alignment ensures that the packaging can adapt to changes in respiration rates, enhancing its ability to regulate the balance of natural gases absorbed and released through its barrier.

When carbon dioxide levels spike within produce packaging, Breatheway’s Temperature Switch Technology Membrane activates. Swiftly expelling excess CO2 through its permeable barrier and absorbing O2, Breatheway stabilizes the packaging atmosphere to optimal levels before decay can begin.

Want to extend the shelf life of your crop?

The active ingredient in Hazel 100 is 1-MCP, a widely used chemical compound that helps prevent early decay in various types of produce. 1-MCP works to inhibit the harmful natural hormone, ethylene, by binding to the fruit’s ethylene receptors and slows down aging. This process extends the produce’s freshness and shelf life.

But how does it really work?
Introduction

After contacting us, a dedicated Hazel representative for your region will reach out to set up a meeting. There we’ll provide an overview of what Hazel can do for you and your operation.

Assessing your operation

A Hazel 100 product expert will assess your operation and determine which of our crop-specialized formulas is best suited for you.

Trial & evaluation

With the assistance of our R&D department and Hazel's scientists, we'll conduct a trial with your team within the standard of your operation. We'll monitor the progress over the set period of time, evaluate the results, and follow up with a meeting to discuss.

Onboarding & implementation

Following the trial review, a team of Hazel product experts and our Customer Success department will work with you during the order, delivery, and implementation processes.

Support & customer success

Throughout the treatment process, you'll have the full support of your Hazel team. We'll follow up throughout the season and post-harvest to check on your experience, and are available for questions throughout.

Want to protect your produce in transit?

Hazel’s Breatheway solution optimizes atmospheric conditions within fruits’ packaging by regulating oxygen and carbon dioxide levels during storage, shipping and even through cold chain break. With Breatheway technology, produce is better protected — resulting in more marketable fruit.
