Hazel Trex™
Hazel Trex is a genetic testing kit, that empowers growers with greater visibility into their crops' maturation timeline and more control over the budbreak process. Working with Hazel team, Kiwi producers who use Hazel Trex increase yield by a target 15 percent. Hazel Trex also works for apples, by helping confirm a crops' organic or inorganic status.

Smart MAP technology.
Anti-fungal Technology
Anti-sprouting Technology
Pre-harvest Solutions
Use Hazel Trex for kiwi to increase yield by a target 15 percent.
Postharvest Solutions
Hazel Trex allows you to verify that 1-MCP was properly applied to stored apples.
Smart MAP technology.
Breatheway customizes its crop-specific Temperature Switch membranes to match the permeability (or permeation rate) with the specific respiration rate of the produce. This alignment ensures that the packaging can adapt to changes in respiration rates, enhancing its ability to regulate the balance of natural gases absorbed and released through its barrier.
When carbon dioxide levels spike within produce packaging, Breatheway’s Temperature Switch Technology Membrane activates. Swiftly expelling excess CO2 through its permeable barrier and absorbing O2, Breatheway stabilizes the packaging atmosphere to optimal levels before decay can begin.
Delayed Aging Technology.
Want to extend the shelf life of your crop?
The active ingredient in Hazel 100 is 1-MCP, a widely used chemical compound that helps prevent early decay in various types of produce. 1-MCP works to inhibit the harmful natural hormone, ethylene, by binding to the fruit’s ethylene receptors and slows down aging. This process extends the produce’s freshness and shelf life.
But how does it really work?

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to provide tools or material to conduct the testing?
No. We provide a Hazel Trex Kit, which includes everything you need to conduct the testing. Inside the Kit you will find and easy to follow instruction guide and the sample tools. There is no need for previous training to use.
Who conducts the Hazel Trex testing?
We work with third party laboratory to conduct PCR testing on the samples provided. They receive the data and conduct PCR testing on the samples provided by our customers. After this process, we provide easy and fast feedback via e-mail.
What crops and varieties are supported by Hazel Trex?
Hazel Trex’s Technology works as a preharvest support for budbreak enhancement for kiwifruit (G3 and Hayward varieties).
When applied to apples (Fuji, Jonagold, Gala, Granny Smith, Elstar, Pink Lady, Red Delicious and Golden Delicious), Hazel’s Trex works as a postharvest tool and can accurately determine whether 1-MCP was applied to stored fruit (even after 9 months of storage).
Do you offer samples?
Yes, we do. But first, we'd need to learn a bit more about your specific needs and supply chain. Fill out the form at the bottom of this page, we'll talk, and send some out to you.
